Warning notes:
General
Etched
models made of sheet metal captivate with lots of detail and tiny
parts. To get those fine scaled models, etching is the favourite method
for manufacturing. To assure those tiny parts are solid anyway, the
basic material is sheet metal – mostly nickel silver, sometimes brass
sheet metal. etchIT always uses nickel silver due to the excellent
stability. But simultaneously this stability is also a potential danger.
The edges of an edged board of a nickel silver modelkit are
occasionally sharp-edged an in all matters tougher than the fingers of
the handicraft enthusiast. So do not underestimate the risk of
injury. To break a particular part out of the board you need a strong
sharp knife which can also be dangerous to your body. Regardless
what tool you use — always use it in that way that in no situation any
part of your body is endangered. Always work away from your body!
Joining, bending, canting
Wherever possible, use little assistants in form of
pieces of hard wood or a small bench vise. Especially long edges can
only be bended exactly with an appropriate aid.
Glueing and soldering
Always respect the safety notes on the packages of the glue you prefer.
Glueing with glues on base of cyanoacrylate include
additional dangers, also respect the appropriate safety notes given by
the manufacturer.
In many cases soldering is THE way to stabilize an
etched model perfectly. Some of the models in the etchIT program are
exclusively designed for soldering assembly, e. g. KT028, Large crosswalk. But watch out! Nickel silver is an excellent heat conductor — directly to your fingertips.
Not for kids!
Assembling etched models is only
suitable for experienced handycraft enthusiasts. These model kits are
absolutely NOT suitable for kids! Always keep in mind, that metal parts
can be very dangerous to the body and if swallowed. So keep your fine
scaled models – in raw or assembled state – always out of the reach of
young children.
Finally
Of
course etched model kits are not mean nor evil and there is no danger
when you free the model kit from the envelope we sent it in... Just
respect the above hints and in short time the nickel silver board
will change into a sophisticated gem for your model railway. All these
tips are according to the motto: "If I would have known..."
In the Download-area you will find a summary of tips and
tricks (in the moment only available in german) for building etched
models in the professional way.
That's it so far — etchIT wishes all success while building your
models and exploring how detailed small models can be! Forget plastic —
